This series of articles explores LDE's commitment to adopting an integrated sustainability strategy through conscious choices in energy, materials, transport and people.

Sustainability is now a critical issue for companies across all sectors, but it has a particularly pronounced impact in logistics and transportation. The growing demand for eco-friendly solutions is reshaping the industry, pushing more and more businesses toward responsible practices—including in Logistics. Green Logistics is not only about optimizing costs; it represents a tangible commitment to reducing environmental impact and enhancing energy efficiency.
The Logistics sector is one of the world’s largest energy consumers. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), Transport and Warehouse management account for about one-third of global carbon dioxide emissions.
Transitioning to renewable energy sources is, therefore, a strategic lever for decarbonizing the sector. For example, implementing photovoltaic systems provides a practical opportunity to optimize energy consumption—exactly what we at LDE aim to achieve.
At our headquarters in Brembate (Bergamo, Italy), we have invested in a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system spanning 6,100 square meters. This system enables us to produce approximately 310 MWh of clean energy annually, significantly reducing our environmental footprint. We believe that adopting clean energy in Logistics is essential for lowering greenhouse gas emissions and fostering a more responsible and sustainable business model. It also contributes to local sustainability efforts and serves as an example for other companies.
Our warehouse in Trezzo sull'Adda (Milan) are an additional part of this strategy: it is 100% powered by renewable sources certified by our energy supplier. This choice benefits both our company’s bottom line and the environment.
In addition to photovoltaic systems, we have taken further actions to enhance energy efficiency in our Logistics operations and warehouses. We’ve implemented an energy efficiency plan that includes replacing outdated halogen lights with LED systems, installing intelligent control systems for outdoor lighting, and optimizing the operation parameters of our climate control systems.
These measures create a dual benefit: they contribute to significant energy savings while also creating more comfortable and functional working environments.
Our approach to sustainable Logistics aligns with the goal of establishing a system that respects the principles of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. With choices such as using renewable energy and adopting technologies to reduce consumption, we aim to build a responsible green Logistics model.
Our commitment to sustainability aligns with the broader global goals of reducing emissions and promoting actions to combat climate change, as indicated by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
